The ego which is also known as the reality principle, tries to find logic and rationale behind everything. According to Freud, the id is a child but the ego is a child who is educated enough so that he can reason things. It is very well explained with the help of a child’s example mentioned above. The pleasure principle seeks to fulfill all instincts and urges at the time it is felt. Freud states that there are two principles namely the pleasure principle and the reality principle.

This term stems from the Freudian Psychoanalysis. The reality principle works to control this child in such a way that his demands are delayed and fulfilled whenever felt necassary. This instinct is like a child who is very stubborn and want things in hand. This term has been coined by Sigmund Freud and has been originated from a German word ‘Realitätsprinzip‘, which means controlling one’s instincts. It propels an individual to control themselves in doing things that may land them into trouble. The thing that comes to our mind is “what will the society say or the gathering around us think?” This is what reality principle is. There is something that stops you from doing so. But at times, doing such actions are just not appropriate.

There have been times when you feel an urge to do something like having a cake, going to pee, stretch yourself, snatching a pencil from your friend and so on.
